Ground Breaking Ceremony of St. Scholastica Uzima Hospital
May 26, 2018, we had a ground breaking ceremony of the construction of extension of Maternity Wing. The ceremony was opened with a word of prayer by Fr. Michael and followed warm welcomes by Sr. Bernadette and Sr. Rosa. Sr. Rosa also gave a brief history of the hospital; how to become a hospital from a dispensary. And then the procession started with two lighted candles and relics carried by our sisters with hymns of praise and thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness to the place appointed for the relics. St. Benedict medal and the medal of our lady of perpetual help were presented with each one’s meaning. St. Benedict is our patron. Through him we call down God’s blessing and protection upon us; to secure timely and healthy birth for all the new borns who will be born in the hospital and all those who seek healing.
And our mother Mary is our perpetual help just as the child Jesus fled into the arms of His Mother. So too do we fly into the arms of our blessed mother with child like confidence whenever fear envelops our hearts. Just as she consoled and comforted her Divine Son does she console and comfort us, her spiritual children. And Soil from the grave of our first Missionary Benedictine Sisters in Africa who died in different circumstance placed with the medals. And then the list of donors and all those who have contributed to the construction placed in the container together with medals. These benefactors symbolize love and generosity. And they have proven themselves as faithful stewards of God given resources bringing glory and honor to God’s name. And finally the list of all staff members of St. Scholastica Uzima Hospital placed in the same container. The ceremony was concluded by Sr. Paula, the superior of Ruaraka Community. Due to the bold of love with our guests all were gathered to share the Joy with a cup of coffee together and this crowned the day.
